The Odd Couple

Tom Brady and Randy Moss are football’s new odd couple. Before their lockers ended up next to each other, their paths could not have been anymore different.

Since the high school days in which Moss was dunking alley-oops from high-school basketball teammate Jason Williams (G, Heat), people knew that Randy was a special talent. We all know the history, he went Florida St, got kicked off the team, went to Marshall, was drafted by the Vikings, and the rest is history.

Tom Brady’s road to stardom couldn’t be more different than Moss. He went to Serra High School in the Bay Area (wooo!) and then played sparingly at Michigan. The most notable thing from this time in Tom Brady’s life was video of him running the 40 at the rookie combine. Quite possible the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life:

Throughout their record-breaking year together, Brady has echoed nothing but praise for Randy Moss. Moreover the two have a great relationship off the field. This was evident on media day when Brady (smiling but serious) told reporters that he and Randy are a “package deal” and that “I’m going wherever he’s going.” Previously I thought that Moss’ latest off the field antics might land him in the unemployment line but it Tom Brady says you’re staying then consider yourself fixed to Foxboro!

I think this is a good example of how sports can bring people together regardless of past history. We’re all guilty of being judgmental at one point or another and a story like this is a good reminder of how keeping an open mind is a better way to go.

my claim to fame I was in the same classes as Tom’s sister Nancy in high school. She was very nice and a good student-athlete (track, basketball, softball). Bully for me! Nancy, don’t forget about the little people!
