My fantasy football playoffs come down to....Adrian Peterson

Blog post by Freddie Footballer, 11 months ago

After 3 leagues, and 15 weeks, my fantasy playoffs have come down to one game, one player. Adrian Peterson. In one league, I have him but I’m down by 20 points heading into tonight’s game and my opponent has Ryan Longwell. In another, I’m up by 12 points and going against him. In a third league, I have Minnesota D and am going against AP with only a 7 point lead. Either way, I’m screwed. I either need him to repeat his performance of last week against San Francisco when he garnered a measly 3 fantasy points, or he needs to go absolutely beserk and score somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 points. Anything in between and I can stand to lose all three leagues.

It’s just amazing that a player who was seen as a high risk – high reward player at the beginning of the season turned into the guy my fantasy hopes are riding on. He was drafted early by some and took off and reached stud status early in his budding career. Those who took him late in their drafts rejoiced at his production.

A closer look though, indicates that he has been rather hit or miss this season. He has scored multiple TDs on three occasions. In two of those games, he went for over 200 yards rushing. Four times this season, he has rushed for under 100 yards with no TDs. However, he did have one of his massive games (224/3) against the Bears earlier this year.

I’m on the edge of my seat for tonight’s game, and I’m sure a number of you out there are too. In a season that’s been wildly unpredictable, it’s only fitting that Peterson has a big hand in deciding my fate and the fate of thousands more out there. The thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, it’s all on tap tonight as the 2007 fantasy football plays itself out. It’s crazy, but win or lose, it’s so damn fun.

Good Luck! I am a Viking fan so I hope he does go off. I’d like to think he will go off but you are right he is the epitome of a hit or miss player. In fact I almost stared him in Rotohog this week but couldn’t do it and replaced him with Westbrook at the last second.

If my memory serves me right, Tomlinson was like this early in his career too.

Anyway, good luck.

Thanks, Corey! I think I’d rather him go off too. But I have the Minnesota D in another league so I hope Minny D outscores him like 40 to 35 or something.

Came up short as an epilogue to this blog, I have to report on my results. In one league where I have AP and was trailing by 20 points, I lost out by about 6 points after Ryan Longwell aided my opponent to the victory. AP made it close though. In another league, I had a small league and the Minny D didn’t do enough to keep AP from beating me by about 7 points. I’m disappointed, but that’s fantasy. If something similar happened to you, don’t give up, there’s always next year!

So close… Nice run Freddie, almost had a back to back. At least you lost to a fellow FSM member…

thanks, Sniper luck is an underestimated factor in fantasy football, and it’s magnified during fantasy playoffs.
