You never got the feeling the Yankees were out of it this year, did you? Neither did I. I just didn’t think they would go ape-crazy over the last month, highlighted by an offensive onslaught of the Chicago White Sox in the series they are currently playing. The Yankees were left for dead by their fans and New York media, but they are on some kind of roll right now. Over their last 22 games, they’ve won 16, and winners of three in a row up until yesterday, losing 13-9 to the White Sox. On July 31st, 8 homeruns were hit (Hideki Matsui-twice, Johnny Damon, Jorge Posada, Bobby Abreu, Melky Cabrera, Robinson Cano and Shelley Duncan) and on August 1st, 5 more balls left the park (Jorge Posada homered twice, Derek Jeter, Robinson Cano and Shelley Duncan). The Yankees racked up 15 hits and 9 runs last night against the White Sox, so their offense, suffice it to say, is “en fuego”. You might not be scared yet if you’re a Boston fan, but you should be concerned.
Bottom line, fantasy baseballers, is get those Yankees in your lineups. It’s odd that Alex Rodriguez did not hit any of those 13 home runs, but he’s probably pressuring himself to hit number 500. He’ll catch fire soon enough. Shelley Duncan looks like a popular pickup off waivers, and if you have a need for some 1B/OF help, take a look at this guy. If you own any Yankees on your squad, just play ‘em and enjoy the production while it lasts.
That’s it for now, folks, til next time.
