No…not the group. Wednesday night, the Cubs made Baseball history by winning their 10,000th game, becoming only the second team to do so (the Giants, somewhat amazingly, were the only team to hit the magic milestone). In true Cub fashion, they did it the hard way by blowing two leads, including with two outs in the ninth, but also showing some grit in recovering from both. Now if they can add to the total some World Series wins…...Also, the Cubs are 15-6 for just the fourth time in their long history.
Maybe Greg Maddux still has some of the lingering Cubs jinx as he was unable in his second attempt to win his 350th game. I think more blame goes to Trevor Hoffman, who blew the save in this one. The damn Padres are 9-13 and the Jared Jinx is on for them (I keep reminding everyone I picked the Padres to reach the World Series)
Per http://www.yourfaceisasportsblog/, you gotta see this clip from the old bsaeball sow “Baseball Bunch”. The following clip from Youtube is a keeper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le31JdFl0hc.
The Big Hurt Frank Thomas has postponed the Big Retirement by hooking back up with Oakland. Oakland got him on the cheap, so hopefully this works out for both parties.
Hold the phone! It appears that my favorite phone endorser Kelvin Sampson will be texting his way back into coaching as an assistant for the the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks. Shouldn’t everyone be concerned that Sampson’s addiction to the cell phone get him into trouble again, especially for his proclivity to illegally contacting athletes? We’ll see how this works out (it nver gets old making fun of Sampson).
Early comtenders for Week 4’s Hunter flops: Francisco Liriano who got blasted again and Barry Zito who is now 0-5. Should the Twins be concerned with Liriano?
Spygate could be rearing its ugly head again. Apparently, depending on who or what you believe. the Patriots taped the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough before they played in the Super Bowl a few years ago. I hope this is not the case, but is punishment appropriate now? This was the game that really jump-started the Patriot “dynasty”. Will Bill Belechek get banned for a year? More?
The NFL Draft is Saturday. Diehard NFL fans love this day as football takes the sports spotlight back for two days. It’s possible I might do some live updates, but we’ll see where work and health play in this.
Big baseball series in DC this weekend as the Cubs come to town. The first place Cubs! I don’t think I have ever seen them in person as a first place team! I will report on my trip Sunday night.
I realize I’m a bit behind on my posts, but I was feeling under the weather on Thursday. I appolgize as work is also getting in the way. i’ll try to do better this weekend!
