NFL Week 1: The Picks Part 2 (and a preview)

Blog post by jaredprebish, 2 months ago

Well people, we are truly here! NFL Week 1 is about to begin!! Sundays with DirecTV in the Fall is one of the best things ever (in a sports universe). Very few things compare, unless you like college football tailgating, Sunday afternoons in the summer at the (base)ball park and March Madness. Nothing like sitting in front of TV, clicker in one hand, beer in the other!

There are so many topics to cover in the NFL, so I will break it down to separate posts. In this one, I will preview and pick. In a separate post, I will talk about Fantasy Football. I’m no expert and I offer no advice. I’m just going to pick one of my many teams and feature that particular team. Then during the week, I will share my results.

The first week of the NFL is always tricky because you never know what is going to happen. Will the players be truly ready (afterall, they only played five snaps all preseason)? Will injured players such as Peyton, LT, Shawne Merriman, etc. be truly ready? How will Brett faver look in a Jets uni? Will Miami go winless?

Here are five things I think will happen this week:

1. We will see Jessica simpson at least 10-15 times in camera shots.

2. We will see at least 10 camera shots of the Manning family

3. Terry Bradshaw will say something stupid.

4. Tiki Barber will say something none of us understands

5. Is Ditka announcing??? Bearsssssssssssss

But Seriously, I think the following will be the fun games this week:

1. Dallas-Cleveland. No mistake by the lake here…there will be offense. Was Derek Anderson a fluke? Will Dallas finally get back to the Super Bowl?

2. Miami-NY Jets. Normally, I would puke. But with Brett Faver, anything can happen. Maybe he’ll retire and unretire in between quarters.

3. Carolina-San Diego. Carolina looked good during preseason. The Chargers, even with injury issues, should be solid. This should one of the more intriguing games of the week.

4. Minnesota-Green Bay. A key divisional game already. How will the Packers fare without Faver?

5. Houston-Pittsburgh. Poor Houston is saddled in football’s toughest division. Pittsburgh has one of the toughest schedules. Big Ben reaches Peyton-Brady status this year.

Now for the picks:

Detroit over Atanta. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Seattle over Buffalo
Jacksonville over Tennessee. Wildcard pick for a fun game
NY Jets over Miami
New England over Kansas City
New Orleans over Tampa Bay
Philly over St. Louis
Pittsburgh over Houston
Ocho Cincy over Baltimore (or is it Baltiless???)
San Diego over Carolina (look out for Carolina in this one!!)
Arizona over San Francisco
Dallas over Cleveland
Indy over Da Bears
Minnesota over Green Bay
Denver over Oakland

See if you can beat the Riff. Email your picks or put them in the comments

Enjoy!!

JP

P.S.

I almost forgot…as promised, here is my Super Bowl winner. We know how my World Series pick went, so if I jinx your team, I apologize ahead of time.
The Winner is…...Indianapolis as Tony Dungy goes out on top
