Tuesday Night Titans

Back in the 1980’s, wasn’t there a wrestling show on USA Network (I think) called Tuesday Night Titans, usually hosted by Lord Alfred Hayes, and perhaps Gorilla Monsoon?

Well, it’s been an interesting Tuesday night. Once upon a time, maybe in the 1990’s, I was still an NHL fan (and obviously a wrestling fan; I evolved perhaps from wrestling to hockey). One of my favorite things in sports back then, believe it or not, was seventh game overtime playoff hockey. That was always an exciting thing because you nver knew when the game and series would end. Tonight, we had that in the Washington-Philadelphia series and sadly, the Capitals lost 3-2 in overtime to win their series 4 games to 3.

The NBA playoffs lumber on. We already know how I feel about that…..

One major thing I have forgotten: the NFL draft is this weekend! Michigan tackle Jake Long has apparently signed with the Miami Dolphins, taking some drama out of the first pick. For some fun, check out this link for the worst overall #1 draft picks: http://nfldraft.rivals.com/photofeature.asp?SID=1164&fid=22666

Two Penn Staters made this list…ouch!

Also in the NFL:

-Apparently the Deadskins made an offer to trade for Ocho Sucko Chad Johnson; the Bengals turned them down. Whew…glad there’s no sucko in my backyard! Gilbert Arenas is enough!

-Seattle released former MVP Shaun Alexander. Not entirely surprising, but sad nonetheless. Hopefully he hooks up with someone (and can still play).

John Smoltz made history tonight with his 3,000th strikeout. Congrats!

Also in Baseball:

-There is now an ARod Jr. floating around as Mrs. ARod gave birth today

-And to go out on a high note (sort of….): The Cubs win again! Holy Harry Carray the Cubs are 14-6 for their best 20 game start since 1975. I remember very bitterly 1985: the Cubs started 13-6 on their way to 34-17 or something like that. Then they lost 13 in a row in June, lost their entire starting rotation to injuries and crashed to 77-84 that year. They did not recover until their next division title in 1989. Ah to be a Cubs fan!!

Time to put me in a sleeper hold and lights out!

Tuesday Night Titans guess that was the precursor to Monday Raw and Thursday Night Smackdown. I hope I’m not dating myself!

wwf TNT aired back in the mid 1980’s as the first big boom of wrestling was taking place. Funny as hell; not sure why it stopped airing.

what about the Von Erichs on ESPN during the afternoon? I can’t remember the name of the show (AWA?) but I used to love being at home, sick from school, and watch during the afternoons. The Von Erichs (Kerry, Michael, etc) were awesome! -bB
