The season ain’t over yet. So it might still be too soon to tell. But after watching and following almost the entire season of the 07/08 EPL, I just couldn’t resist to declare who I think is the best player in the EPL.
This player hasn’t played much yet was so devastatingly effective in his performances. He came to England over the ’07 summer as Liverpool’s record signing at 53 million dollars (money that Americans Hicks and Gillette brought over). He rejected a move to Chelsea in 2006 while he went on to score 91 goals for Atletico Madrid over 243 total games since 2001.
Fernando Torres is the all-around forward/striker. Having played 34 games in total for Liverpool, he has netted 25 times. He’s got 19 goals in 26 league games almost averaging 1:1 ratio in a sub-par performing Liverpool squad. He scores goals, but also provides assists with his sleek passing and his outrageously uncanny oversight. He sees plays before they develop. He measures his teammates’ runs perfectly. As good as he is, he also makes his teammates around him better, and that’s why I consider him the best player of the EPL 07/08 season.
I know I know. You hate me because I didn’t mention C.Ronaldo (Man Utd), F.Fabregas (Ars), M.Laursen (A Villa), or R.Keane (Spurs).
Yeah, this might be C.Ronaldo’s best scoring season. But there’s no arguing that too often, he puts personal glory ahead of team success. If you ask me, the reason he’s been able to do this, is because he’s surrounded with other top quality players. But nonetheless, he’s good and we all know this.
F.Fabregas had a beautiful start to the season after which he slacked off a little, but there’s no denying that he’s been instrumental in getting those crucial wins for Arsenal. He’s like a symphony orchestrator, pulling the strings and leading the charge. But Arsenal’s style doesn’t allow for individuality. Arsenal is a team. A damn good one at that.
M.Laursen is a rock in defense and has at many times shown why he’s invaluable to Aston Villa’s cause. He’s certainly got my vote for best defender in the EPL, even over Sol Campbell (Portsmouth) and N.Vidic (Man Utd).
And Robbie Keane has been the best performer for Tottenham during this tumultuous period for the Spurs. He scores goals and works hard to create for others. If only his team responds in the same way as he does, Tottenham would be doing alot better than just bringing in the Carling Cup. But without R.Keane, Tottenham would surely be contesting for relegation safety.
So my vote’s out. Fernando Torres is the man. Agree or disagree. Would love to hear your opinion. I’m excited to see what else he has in store next season. With Liverpool striving to take 4th in the EPL, Liverpool’s prize-chest seems to be ready to take in another UEFA Cup – then possibly contend at the highest pedigree in the UEFA Champions League again to give their ’05/‘06 Champions League trophy a baby sister.
Torres quick start to the season, slowed down a bit and has been very consistent since. He’s been a terror for ‘pool against their competitors.

Cristiano Ronaldo By far the best player in the EPL, Europe, and the world. Not only has he lead the EPL in scoring, but he is leading his team to eventually win the EPL. If Manchester United win the Premiership, I don’t think there will be any doubt that Cristiano will be the player of the year.
I hope you all caught the game. You would have clearly seen who the best player in the EPL is.
Best Player in the EPL I forgot to mention that my last comment completely contradicts how I felt earlier in the season.
My Reasoning:
I thought C. Ronaldo would be top 3 in Europe again, but I have to admit that I don’t see very much competition other than Torres that will take him off the number one spot. Ronaldo has played one less game than el nino, but has managed to score 5 more goals and get 21 more shots on target. As a striker, I would think Torres would need to dominate in those categories when compared to a winger. Ronaldo (of course since he is a midfielder) also has 16 more crosses than Torres.
If you were to ask me, I would say the best player is someone that will have the most impact on each and every s . Although you can argue that statistics don’t always paint the entire picture in football, I would go with C. Ronaldo.
Cristiano Ronaldo en una puta Cristiano no doubt will win the EPL player of the year award. Probably will haul in the Ballon d’Or (European player of the year). Very likely that he’ll bring in the UEFA Club Footballer of the year and the Golden Boot. And highly likely he’ll even win the FIFA World Player of the Year. And depending on the Euro 2008 results for Portugal he might even get the MVP.
But he’s still the biggest bitch in football, goddammit C-Bleez!
