The season start March 25th and Fantasy Baseball drafts are happening all around the world! There are alot of strategies out there, such as spending most of your high picks (or bank roll) on hitters, waiting to until the later rounds (spending little) on Saves, etc… And of course, there are numerous ways of picking sleepers, based on growing trends, home ball park effects, managerial tendencies. In addition, one needs to consider the scoring system and position requirements.
The question I have for you is, are you using your DL slots wisely? I’m not talking about during the season. I’m talking about during the draft. With my last pick, I just drafted Curt Schilling. He may not even come back this season, but it won’t cost me anything to find out if he does. How is that possible? Here’s how (at least in Yahoo leagues).
Schilling is already on the DL. As soon as our league starts, I’ll stick Schilling into a DL slot and pick up someone else, who is essentially worth a last round pick. In fact, you could take this one step further if you have more than one DL slot. Use the last few picks on good players who will shortly be on the DL when the season starts and have a chance of coming back this season. If you’re in a keeper league, using that last pick and DL slot on Cris Carpetner could pay dividends in 2009 and beyond. And it won’t cost you anything to find out.
