NBA Funk Era

Blog post by stantheman13, 3 months ago

I’d like to see the NBA style catch a blast from the past. The league is as good as ever talentwise, however stylistically I would like to see it move in a different direction. Watching games this season I noticed that many players in the league are covered in tattoos, I’m not talking sleeves. They’re more like body sleeves. Watching the Warriors vs. Denver, Ai, Melo, Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes, Josh Smith, Al Harrington, were just to name a few. While I believe in freedom of self-expression, I would like to see the players adopt a more old school feeling. Call me old-fashioned but I’d like to see player revert back to the funk era. What happened to guys like Clyde Frazier, or Earl “the Pearl” Monroe, Clyde “the Glide” Drexler, George “the Iceman” Gervin, these players epitomized the cool, projecting a professional standard in their approach to playing. These players would come to the game in supafly suits, dressed and ready to go hard. They set a standard for all players. LeBron is one player I am excited about, bringing back the era, the way he dresses, his commercials, and also the way he plays. Rasheed Wallace too. Players need to look back to the old school, call it a throwback. Instead of listening to the latest tracks by 50 or Lil Wayne before the game, try listening to some James Brown, George Clinton, or some Rick James. Get a little Funk in their step, rather than projecting the image of a thug. Players are too spoiled, they are overpaid (Stephon Marbury) and complain too much. Shut up and play, it’s a privelige to play professional basketball. There are only 300 people in the league, players need to consider themselves blessed, rather than worrying about how many dollars they’re making. Many players have an individualistic perspective, rather than viewing it as a team game. Let’s bring back the Afros, howabout a dress code that only entails look sharp dress, and definitely let’s bring back the funky music. In an era of throwback jerseys, the League shoud bring back the throwback style of play. Make it Funky!!

re:

I assume you meant J.R. Smith early in that post. In response to your blog, different era different culture. Not much else you can say about our lack of prevalent roots.
