The LA Galaxy refused to comment tonight on reports Ruud Gullit was set to become their new coach. A report on Sky suggested the former Chelsea boss would take over from Frank Yallop in March.

Ruud Gullit Yallop quit the Galaxy on Sunday to return to San Jose for a second stint in charge of the Earthquakes.

But Galaxy spokesman Patrick Donnelly declined to comment when contacted by PA Sport.

Galaxy president Alexi Lalas said on Monday that the club were looking to appoint a ‘sexy type of candidate’ to replace Yallop.

Gullit, who coined the phrase ‘sexy football’, appears to fit the bill and has jumped ahead of other candidates for the job that included Jurgen Klinsmann and Jose Mourinho.

Lalas said: ‘There certainly is interest in a high-profile, sexy type of candidate – not simply because this is the Galaxy and this is Los Angeles, but because we are looking to bring in somebody who can do something different.’

i wish they wouldn’t use the word ‘sexy’ it carries the wrong connotation. i know what point they’re trying to make but the word choice is horrible. Dutch soccer is exciting and pleasing to the eye, not sexy! Once again, another example of why Lalas should be fired. I certainly hope the Quakes are able to trash the Galaxy and their ‘sexy’ coach next year. -bB

Lalas needs to be censored he says things I don’t think he even means (or understands how it may be taken) all the time in the media. He needs to take a class in public relations.
