Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers reached a preliminary agreement Saturday on an eight-year, $153.3 million contract extension, a source close to Cabrera told ESPNdeportes.com on condition of anonymity.
Overall, it would become the fourth-richest pact ever in baseball history. Cabrera would trail Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez ($275 million), Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter ($189 million) and Boston outfielder Manny Ramirez ($160 million) in the total salary package listing.
huge signing what a deal! Has to be one of the top three biggest contracts of the offseason. This offense is going to rock and roll. Get ready for daily fireworks in Detroit. They should lead the league in most team offensive categories this year, I would think.

Wow Forget top three of the season, that kind of money/years is absurd for someone so young. Talented, yes, but holy crap. Let’s see how he adjusts to the superior league and earns his paycheck.
I See Detroit…. ....being the New England Patriots of offense this year in MLB. They should score more than 1000 runs easily. For Miguel’s talents, the contract I think was fair; if not a bargain for the Tigers.
$$ That’s a lot of moola
so much money He has a ton of talent and has put together some big statistical seasons. Averaged .313, 31 hrs, 188 rbi over 4+ seasons. Hit .265 with 4 homers and 12 rbi in the 2003 playoffs with Florida.
But let’s see if he can stay in shape and do it with some more pressure.
Florida Playoff Stats Remember that was also his rookie year. Pretty impressive taking on a veteran Yankee team in the World Series that year. Cabrera, Beckett and the D-Train were impressive that year against the Yankees.
He’s like a Spanish Babe Ruth.
Yeah, I was really trying to point out that he did pretty well in 17 postseason games in 2003 as a rookie, which might bode well for future big game performances.
