Sean Payton’s persistence finally won out. The New Orleans Saints acquired Jeremy Shockey for a second- and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009, a source confirmed Monday.

In addition to Brees getting another target, Shockey should also impact the running game by laying down some brutal blocks when called upon. If he stays healthy, I think this trade is a plus for him and all the Saints offensive weapons. After his disappointing final season in New York, I think he will come to play in 2008 as the energetic Shockey we know and love for fantasy points.
Brees loves to get the TE the ball Brees made Gates, not the other way around. no other QB would break Gates off for 3 TDs a game. Drew knows how to get the ball to his playmakers..look at Colston, Brees made Colston, not the other way around…and finally, Brees will restore Shockey into the upper echelon of TEs..he’ll have a Winslow-esque type of year…-The Answer
PS -Gates Made Gates Not Brees Shockey isn’t close to being the TE that Gates and Winslow are. He peaked back in 2006. Guys like Gates and Winslow are pure athletes in and are wide receivers in TE shape.
Shockey is a tight end who can’t block. You need skills to score touchdowns at the tight end position and Shockey will prove that in 2008.
re: Wow, Brees did not make Gates. Gates made Gates, he just needed a QB who could get him the ball and toss it up for jump balls in the endzone.

New weapon Brees just has another weapon he can use. Brees knows how to use whatever weapons he has around him. Gates didn’t make Brees or vise versa. They’re both great players who will thrive in almost any type of offense. Proof is how Brees is doing with the Saints and Gates with Rivers now at QB. Shockey is going to be rejuvenated and have a breakout year like Moss did in New England.
wow! big deal. Brees to Shockey, I like it!

The saints are gonna be scary this year. Now if they can just play a little defense!
if he stays healthy… ...it is a great deal for the Saints. But he is prone to nagging injuries.

Dear Mr. Shockey…. ....don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Good bye!

Correction You don’t* need skills to score touchdowns in the NFL....Shockey will prove that in 2008.
brees and gates brees did not make gates. that is for sure. gates is a supreme talent that makes a lot of tough, tough catches seem easy.
