Valdez comeback ever closer with impressive spring

This was one of those bizarre, unhappy coincidences. Francisco Liriano and Merkin Valdez, boyhood friends from the Dominican Republic, both blew out their pitching elbows in September 2006, and had “Tommy John” surgery.
