Arenas Has Another Knee Surgery
Knee surgeries are never a good thing. A third knee surgery to the star player on your basketball team? That could be disastrous for the Wizards organization and its fans ($112 or so million of high risk-high reward money). Gilbert Arenas is great for basketball, so it stinks that he’ll be on the shelf for the first month of the season. The Wizards weathered the storm well enough without him last year, but how many more times will Gilbert be sidelined in his career? Suddenly, Golden State is relieved they didn’t get him during free agency. Should the Wizards be concerned for the future of their franchise based on Arenas’ injury record?

francis and marbury were never as talented as arenas. he could still end up like gary payton by tagging onto a championship team just before retirement. but even when he was healthy and at his best with washington, did anyone truly think he was going to win a championship with that team? i doubt it.September 17, 2008 - 10:41pm

wait a second, I think
wait a second, I think Francis was more talented than Arenas and you could argue Starbury as well. Francis is a better playmaker and Starbury passes the ball better. Arenas may be a better shooter than both of them but neither of them are vastly different than one another. Arenas never took a team (by himself) to the playoffs while Francis had competitive battles with the Lakers and other teams when it was just him and Cuttino Mobley who's a Delonte West type player if you're into current day comparisons. all that being said, Arenas will never get a ring. his best days are over.September 18, 2008 - 12:02am

Wait on it boys. Gilbert might be on the decline, but D-Wade has proven that knee surgery isn't an athleticism killer.September 18, 2008 - 12:25am

from 1999-2004—francis’s
from 1999-2004--francis's tenure in houston, they missed the playoffs every year but the last one (yao ming's 2nd season and francis's worst as a pro to that point) and only after van gundy came to replace tomjanovich as head coach and dropping francis's stats significantly. then he didn't lead a talented orlando team to the playoffs when he was traded for tracy mcgrady (pundits blame the mobley trade to sacramento, it was more likely that francis packed it in because he publicly complained about mobley being traded). then we all know what happened from there: suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team", trade to the knicks for penny hardaway's expiring contract, tendinitis and quadriceps surgery, mediocrity. i used to like francis during his first years in houston; i still have a poster of him from that period on my wall. but his was a talent never realized, and because he didn't fully realize it you can't say he was better than arenas. they are about equal, but gilbert wins more. i really hope francis can turn it around and get his body and head straightened out and healthy, but right now it doesn't seem likely. as for marbury, he didn't reach his highest level until he was traded (in 1998) to the nets from minnesota (where he feuded with timberwolves management over his role being less important than all-star kevin garnett's). but even though his statistics increased, he didn't make the playoffs any of his three seasons with the nets, nor in his first with the suns after being traded for jason kidd in 2001. he had two great statistical years in phoenix before an injury shortened his third, and he had another two good years in new york from 2003-2005 when he was traded mid-season for a slew of players (made the playoffs once with the knicks in that half-season). in all, marbury has had a longer career more comparable to arenas, yet with more turmoil than even francis stirred up. this is all not to mention the fact that arenas was picked in the second round compared with francis being the #2 overall pick in his draft and marbury the #4 overall in his. gilbert gets the chip on his shoulder award. after reviewing this information, i take back saying that arenas is more talented than both of those players, but he has made the playoffs in a higher percentage of his years in the nba so far (43%, compared to francis's 10% and marbury's 29%). great players lead their teams; arenas has done that so far (runnin into lebron james hasn't helped in the playoffs) and francis and marbury didn't, electing instead to be team killers via their personalities and letting their talent slip away due to bad behavior. this is why we hope that arenas isn't sidelined by injuries for the rest of his career.September 18, 2008 - 9:58am

you could say arenas is
you could say arenas is clutch but he doesnt make anybody around him better. and dont compare arenas to the self proclaimed best point guard in the league in starbury and stevie coach killer franchise. they are probably the two most selfish players in the league.Reply
