A-Rod is as bush league as it gets

So as not to confuse anyone, if you ain’t knowing what bush league is then read up on it:

“Bush league is a general term used to describe an action or thing as being amateur, inferior or crude. In a literal sense, it refers to a low quality minor-league in baseball not associated with any of the major league teams. The term originated from the state of minor-league fields that often were ringed with shrubs and bushes.”

While watching my beloved A’s yesterday, I saw A-Rod straighten up in the batters box, drop his bat, and call for time. A’s pitcher Dana Eveland then stopped his delivery and the umpire proceeded to call a balk.

Apparently, the ump didn’t hear A-Rod’s call for time. Which is fine with me. What’s bush league about this is that A-Rod went into a conniption fit; pointing, yelling, and screaming that Eveland had balked…when in fact A-Rod knew exactly what had happened.

A-Rod isn’t a gamer. He’s a loser!

Honor has nothing to do with it...

when there is so much money at stake. Lame move, I agree. He might have just stood there and said nothing. But alas, he gets paid tens of thousands per game. Any minor advantage (or, in this case, not so minor) that can be gained will be. Disturbingly enough, I don't view A-Rod's actions as Bush League. Rather, I see them as essentially professional and an integral (and regrettable) part of big money sports.

I see your point, but it appears the ump might've been swayed by A-Rod's star status in believing him over the pitcher. Does salary equal credibility? I think it does many times.

no doubt he's playing to win but...

i guess it's up to A-Rod as to how he wants to be perceived by his peers and if it doesn't matter to him then it's all good. but A-Rod has a history of this crap; trying to hit the ball out of a glove, screaming at someone trying to catch a pop fly, etc..i liken it to Bruce Bowen in the NBA. sure he's a great defender but he doesn't really have the respect of the people around him. most think he's a punk and it's their actions which lead people to believe these things. -bB
