Bryant Johnson a terrible signing?

Ok so at first I thought this guy might be a good signing. It’s still early but Johnson hasn’t really done anything to show that he belongs on the field. Sure he’s like 6’3” and 225 lbs but how can this guy make plays if he’s always hurt?

I understand star players not suiting up but for newly acquired talent looking to breakout, c’mon tough it out!

Josh Morgan

This guy looks like the real deal, forget Johnson.

Morgan works out and trains with Vernon Davis

and while Vernon isn't a great TE yet there's no doubting his work ethic and athletic ability. knowing that Morgan is training with this monster (and has been) tells me that he has mental toughness. I can't imagine too many rookies being able to hang with a Vernon Davis workout. that's like begging for a case of exhaustion induced vomiting! -bB

re:

Morgan's work ethic is impressive, but I doubt he supplants anyone. As of right now, Bruce and Johnson are the starters with Battle and Hill backing them up. I buy Battle beating out Johnson and Morgan beating out Hill, but unless Morgan can make serious noise at WR3 don't expect much from him this season. As for this thread, yes, Johnson sucks. Arnaz Battle should be starting. __________ thetruewarrior.com

receivers dont matter without QB

morgan working out with davis does not prove anything to me... morgan was a athletic talent in virginia tech but there was a reason he was available in the 6th round- he is not consistent and does not get the nuances of the game - route running, etc. You cant really expect anything out of the receivers if the QB cant get them to it. If VD was in cleveland, he would be better than kellen winslow. Bruce will start because of his experience and hill isnt bad so he might split time with battle.

I like Josh Morgan’s

I like Josh Morgan's athletic ability and his potential. We have time to wait for him. Isaac Bruce will obviously be number one unless an injury occurs. I think the next three WR's will all get playing time and will get catches every game. Johnson will probably start at number two, but we have depth with Battle and Hill. But i agree, let's not worry about our WR right now. We need to focus on establishing a QB and an offensive line. Then we can worry about the WR. If I had a time machine I would go back to 2005 and draft Braylon Edwards instead of Alex Smith. But I remain a faithful. The 49ers will surprise everyone this year, even you guys and make the playoffs. I really like the way our defense is playing and i think our offense will be able to barely get by. FAITHFUL

re:

Speaking of not understanding the nuances of the game, Vernon Davis has failed at memorizing the complete playbook for a couple years. He's a poor route runner, put him on Cleveland and he'll have more passes thrown his way, but he'll still have missed 8 games in his short career and made dumb/technical mistakes.

davis' inability to run routes

i know what you're talking about. I've never seen someone lost down the field so many times. Vernon will always have the potential to be something great but I'm not sure if he'll ever be able to figure it out. At least it's going to be tough without a top notch QB throwing him the rock. 49ers should go after McNabb or something. What other top QBs would be available via trade? probably none during the regular season but it doesn't hurt to speculate! -bB

McNabb would be an amazing

McNabb would be an amazing pickup, but I highly doubt that happens. Vernon doesn't even need a good QB he needs to be sent on a variety of routes, unlike last year where all Nolan did was send him on downfield streaks, and know where to be and how to catch the ball. It will be interesting to watch him this year.
