First Round Losers

After re-facing themselves with blockbuster trades during the regular season, and attempting to somewhat shift each of their identities, Dallas and Phoenix nonetheless wound up quick losers in the first round of the playoffs. Which loss was more disappointing and why? Going into the future, which team has more promise or problems, the Suns or the Mavs?

Suns more disappointing

I think the expectations were lower for Dallas this year, coming in as a #7 seed. Some people thought a month ago that the Suns had a shot to get deep into the playoffs with their revamped lineup. Shaq was considered the missing piece of their contention dreams. I expect both teams to re-tool next year. Dallas has already started by getting rid of Avery Johnson. I wonder if Steve Nash will be around much longer. He looks beat up after only a few seasons in the NBA.

Look Out Seattle and Portland....

....maybe it's time for some new teams to in the west to be considered powerhouses come the following years. Dallas and Phoenix may be be ends of playoff berth eras.

Suns were the let down

Why: San Antonio beat them again. In fact, they kicked their butts. With the exception of Game 1 this was the most boring series of the playoffs. Nash's terrible defense finally got highlighted along with his turnover prone passes. Remember, the Suns went 3-1 against SA during the regular season. They were supposed to compete using their two big men. But Shaq just isn't good enough for the dump pass into the post and turnaround hook. Phoenix learned this the hard way. Quite disappointing.
