Has Roger Federer lost his edge?
It certainly seems like it after his sixth loss in just this year alone, this time to Radek Stepanek in the Rome Masters. He lost 7 times all of 2007.
Or do you think the other players on tour are catching up? Both?

re:
He hasn't so much lost his edge as people don't see him as unbeatable anymore. Ever since Djockovic (hope I spelled that right) beat him a while back, R-Fed has been in a bit of a slump. He'll break out of it. Still the best player in the world in my opinion. __________ LB23May 11, 2008 - 6:38am

the dominance
I think Federer is still the most dominant player in the world and his edge is still very much in tact. He'd have to lose a few more matches before we can talk about his decline..May 15, 2008 - 2:38am

It'll take more than this...
For Federer to even be considered less than number one he would have to lose a lot more and badly. The man made the Australian Open semis with mono for god's sake.May 15, 2008 - 8:03am

I agree
with the notion that he's lost that "aura of invincibility" and has given his opponents just enough confidence to think they have a chance. To me, there's not much difference between #1 and #50 in rankings, probably more mental than physical skill there.July 14, 2008 - 10:51am

i dunno
This wimbledon final really changed a lot. It could have gone either way, although Nadal was playing very well and Federer had too many unforced errors. After all, Nadal has been the second best player on grass. It is only a matter of time until Federer starts doing even worse, although I think for now he still has his edge.July 26, 2008 - 12:11pm

He's still the man
at least for the rest of this season. A better showing than Nadal at the US Open will be key to maintaining his rank.Reply
