MARCH MADNESS IS UPON US - IS THE ACC STILL THE POWERHOUSE CONFERENCE
UNC and Duke will play on March 8th. These are the only nationally competive teams in the ACC. I miss the days when the ACC could put 5 teams in the AP Top 25.
Clemson, Miami, Wake and Maryland are sitting on the bubble and only a strong showing in the ACC tournament can save them.
Does the Big East, Pac 10 and SEC play better basketball? Are the mid majors stealing tourney bids from the major conference, or have the runs of Butler, Creighton, S. Illinois and George Mason validated the arguement that great basketball is being played in every region of this country.
Your thoughts????

You da man Freddie
Let's kickup the NCAA March Madness Debate on this site. I could talk/write all day about college basketball. Parity does rule the day and thank god for it. What are your picks for the elite 8 this year? How many mid-majors will make it into the round of 8? I'd say 1 probably, 2 at the most. Teams to watch out for........... BUTLER, DRAKE, and dare I say St. Mary's. I don't consider Xavier a mid major but they deserve a look and have some of the big dawgs running scared as we approach selection sunday. -SwanyFebruary 28, 2008 - 12:30pm

Butler
those guys are good, for sure. I agree on Xavier. I would peg them as possibly making elite 8. Notre Dame and Purdue are interesting teams this year, and I give those squads a decent shot at top 8 as well. I like UCLA to make it as well in the Pac-10, I'm not completely sold on Stanford. Some of the favorites will be there, the Vols, Memphis, and UNC should all make elite 8.- Freddie Footballer

Vols and Memphis are vulnerable
Run and gun teams that cannot play in the half court. One of those two will lose in the round of 16.February 28, 2008 - 1:17pm

Memphis is the team to beat....
.....I like Memphis and UNC to make the final four. I also think Texas will make the final four also. Go Stanford too. They are my personal favorite outside of UCLA.February 28, 2008 - 4:34pm

the Pac 10 is deep
UCLA and Stanford could make deep runs into the tournament. Arizona, Wash St, and USC are all decent teams too..however this could be the mainstream year for the mid-majors. they threw a big monkey wrench in the tourney the past few years and now the "cinderella" tag has been shed. these teams are for real! -bBMarch 19, 2008 - 9:20pm

Pac 10 is the best conference this year!!!
too much east coast bias for the big east and acc -- just watch how they do in the tournament -- the pac 10 might have 2 or 3 teams in the final four (ucla, stanford, usc) and ariz will beat duke (an overrated # 2 seed)March 26, 2008 - 7:13am

I'll give you UCLA and Stanford, but UNC is far better overall
Great pick with Arizona, hahaha. UNC is the only ACC team left but don't give me the overused east coast bias line of BS. The Big East is very strong, and don't blame the fans for any precieved east coast bias because if it does exist the media is to blame not the fans. SwanyMarch 26, 2008 - 10:49am

How about Duke, Swany?
Was there a more overrated team in recent memory? They were just not very good. Arizona, I could've told you they were going out early, but I don't see how Duke was seeded #2 in their region.- Freddie Footballer

parity and unpredictability
you don't have to look much further than the Tennessee upset of Memphis followed by the upset of the Vols a few days later by Vandy to see that volatility rules the day and no doubt, there will be upsets galore in the tournament.- Freddie Footballer
