MLS Allstars beat Celtic. So?

So the MLS Allstars beat Scottish Champs Celtic 2-0 in sold-out Denver, so what? I didnt personally watch the game but from reading from MLSNET.com, it looks like the MLS Allstars came to play and the Celtics just let them.

Ok Ok, I admit: Juan P. Angel is a prolific goalscorer. But we already knew that. Putting away 55 goals in 111 appearances in 3 years at River Plate then going off for 62 goals in 204 appearances for Aston Villa is hardly the mediocre stuff most strikers are made out of. Ok, concerns came up about his lack of consitency, and maybe was the real reason why Villa took on John Carew and Ashley Young to compete for striker spots. Many say he couldn’t take on the rigors of Euro Football, but to me, the Colombian just wanted to be elsewhere closer to home. What’s in England anyways except for cold weather?

I digress, the point I’m trying to make is whats the big fuss all about regarding the MLS Allstars, an assortment of top quality players currently playing in the MLS, beating Celtic in a friendly game who were only there for the work-out and preparation of dealing with a more heavy duty schedule. Why do we have an AllStar team? And why does this Allstar team play a team on summerbreak? What are your thoughts>?

I watched the game...

and thought we completely brought it against Celtic. It is obvious that the future of MLS is in bringing more quality Latin players like Angel and Juan Toja into the fold. Yes, Celtic is out of shape and playing in its preseason, but this should not detract from the rising quality of MLS. Beckham's arrival was just the kickoff of a purposeful public campaign to raise the profile of the league. Bringing in more Angel's, Toja's, Blanco's, etc will raise the quality of the league and keep people watching. I think many would agree that the product on the field is now very watchable. We don't have to win over all those (perhaps, like RoyalOrange) who watch European leagues but not MLS, but I think the product on the field will begin to become attractive to a number of those fans stateside and MLS's investments in players and stadiums will start to pay dividends soon.
