Some UFC Updates: Couture, Henderson and more

Some updates from the last couple of weeks – what are your thoughts?

Henderson relents; will fight Anderson Silva at UFC 82

Dan Henderson has landed a second consecutive UFC title fight. Henderson has agreed to drop from light-heavyweight to middleweight and face champion Anderson Silva on the UFC 82 pay-per-view show March 1 in Columbus, Ohio.

Analysis: wow, I’m really looking forward to this. Dana White must’ve made Dan an offer he could not refuse.

Matt Serra injured; GSP to fight Hughes instead

From LA Times: Matt Serra’s first defense of his Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight title will be delayed until next year after he suffered two herniated disks last week in training for his Dec. 29 fight against former champion Matt Hughes.

UFC officials will continue to keep Hughes in the main event at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center, replacing Serra (16-4) with another former champion, Georges St. Pierre, in a fight for the UFC’s “interim” welterweight championship.

Analysis: this will be a very good fight and the third between these two warriors. It will basically decide who the number #1 contender is between the two. I’m picking GSP based on his recent form and based on how he just overwhelmed Hughes last time around.

Couture turns down fight against Noguiera

Yahoo! Sports from yesterday: In a meeting with Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White last Tuesday, current heavyweight champion Randy Couture turned down a proposed title defense against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 81 on Feb. 2.

Analysis: You get the feeling Couture will be back at some point. If things don’t work out in UFC, I think he’ll do a one-off fight against Fedor b/c there’s still a lot of interest in that fight.

I can't wait

Silva vs Henderson will be a great fight. My bet is on Henderson. Matt Hughes should also destroy St. Pierre this time around.
