UFC is beating Pride's senior circuit

Recently, after Crocop losing to Kongo and Shogun being embarrassed by Forrest Griffin, there’s been a lot said and written about UFC domination over the former Pride fighters. Too bad there’s no mention of how many fights the likes of Shogun, Crocop, etc. have been through before landing in the UFC.

The point is that the UFC fighters are in their prime, at the beginning of their careers. Fighters like Gonzaga, Kongo, and Griffin are much younger and have less wear on themselves.

I’d like to see Gonzaga fight Crocop at the time when he was going the distance with Fedor. Or put Kongo in the ring the night that Crocop smashed Silva’s head in half. Similarly, let’s see how Forrest Griffin would have done in Pride middleweight tournament where Shogun savagely beat down Ramapge Jackson, Ricardo Arona, and others.

I’m not convinced that these UFC fighters are better than the former Pride fighters. Are you?

After some thought...

I am an admitted PRIDE snob prior to the acquisition of PRIDE by Zuffa, and at first blush, one can make the argument that UFC fighters are better than PRIDE fighters. But let's look more closely at what's happened and some explanations why the UFC has done better: 1) Rules are different and not as liberal as in PRIDE. 2) Fighting in the octagon is quite different from fighting in the ring. 3) The PRIDE fighters are past their prime or are unprepared for UFC 4) Fights are in the US versus Japan, judging is different. All these things might not explain losses like the one suffered by Mauricio Rua (where he just looked horrible) but maybe PRIDE fighters may need some kind of adjustment period before showing their true skills in the ring, er Octagon.
