EPL wants to have league matches here on US soil
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/soccer/02/07/bc.soc.premierleague....
At first I was very much for this idea as it would help bring soccer more into the consciousness of the American sports public. But after some thinking, it can actually hurt efforts with our own league, MLS.
US slips to 26th in the latest FIFA rankings

So we tie with Mexico and end up dropping six spots to 26th? Well, we relish the underdog role so this is probably good motivation.
CONCACAF Prez backs the England World Cup bid in 2018?

I don’t get this. Why wouldn’t you want it here (where it would have gone if they didn’t do away with the rotation system). Oh, that’s right. He wants to make nice so England will grant a friendly with Trinidad & Tobago. Clay Davis from the Wire is an apt comparison to Jack Warner.

FIFA is dirty
sometimes I think they're a bunch of thugs, mafia, whatever running soccer globally. It's corrupt and it's almost given that room to do that since they aren't a government, per se, they're not somehow held to that standard. I think it takes away from the game. No wonder a certain amount of people are more into following their club teams as opposed to national teams.view
Overseas domestic fixtures!?
Don't agree with this idea, purely on the grounds of protecting the integrity of the domestic league and its players. From a marketing point of view, I can see how this would bolster the awareness (read: ping-ping) of soccer globally (read: USA). I think these fixtures should only be held on a friendly basis, or maybe one day the FiFA will want to design a GLOBAL LEAGUE. The World Club Cup champ'ship is roughly a global competition of the same objective. But then again, while dreaming about a global league is fine, I think that there's nothing broken with the current domestic/national program so why the hell does the FA (and others) feel the need to reinvent the wheel? Convenient for European fans living in the US, hosting EPL games in the US is not a good idea for the faithful domestic fan. Thank you NFL, for coming up with this stupid marketing idea.view
good stuff
I'm all for EPL and MLS working together and doing club exhibitions and friendlies but this is too much, too risky for the players and the season is already long enough as it is.- Freddie Footballer

funny
i don't care if EPL comes here for a few games, it's all good. I'd rather have them play against MLS teams and we kick their asses, but it should help raise some interest. I think if people are interested in soccer in general it's a good thing in the States.
