Warriors Out...Now What?

Well, the Warriors lost to the Suns today cementing their place at home for the next few weeks. My question to you is…where do we go from here? This team has so many needs with 9 of our current 14 players contracts expiring this off-season, and in my opinion our future starts and ends with developing our rookies (yes Nellie, that does help your team) and our second year rookies of Wright, BellyNelly, and Perovic (they might as well be rookies with how little they played for the assets and talent they bring to the team). Here’s a quick rundown of our offseason needs I wrote up:

1) Teach Monta this long lost art of “defense.”

2) Try and trade for a big man. I really don’t care who as long as they’re an athletic PF, stronger than Biedrins, and can board. 2a: use BellyNelly and Harrington as trade bait.

3) Figure out what we’re going to do with BellyNelly. He’s a great shooter, but he can’t shoot from the bench. Either put him into the rotation and force him to play some defense or trade him while his value is still relatively high.

4) Get Brandan Wright’s braces off.

5) Tell Baron to cut his threes in half. Seriously, he’s a bad 3 point shooter. I don’t know how else to say it.

6) Develop either a) a 3 point shot for Monta Ellis or b) better passing. Preferably, I would rather have him be a better passer but most players think the trey is too damn sexy to pass up (cough Baron).

7) Draft a backup PG. Baron is slowly dying, give him some rest. And no CJ Watson is not a legit backup.

8) Fill the divots in Al Harrington’s head.

9) Brandan Wright. He needs to play, and it’s going to be tough because it will basically be his rookie season this year but he needs experience. I believe he can be a monster, and at PF we really need that.

10) Tell Andris to stop gelling his hair before games.

11) Force feed Brandan Wright so he gains 25 pounds.

12) Tell Stephen Jackson that backing your man down from the three point arc, trying to show off with your dribbling then throwing up a clunker, or attempting to drive down the middle on a smaller/faster player when we’re down 9 is not a good idea. I can’t count how many times this has happened.

13) Offer Pietrus 2 years at around 2 mill per. Bargain up to 4 mill per but no more than that. Im sure he’ll get offered 6-8 mill because if Brian Cardinal can get 6 mill a year anyone can. Pietrus isn’t worth 6 mill, Warriors fans will understand.

14) Al Harrington needs a role. He sucked this year because he’d play sporadic minutes at random times and situations. Tell him to be aggressive constantly and not play like a guard, then give him a consistent 25 mpg.

15) Get a bench. Kelenna and Pietrus were basically the only reliable bench guys this year because Nelly refused to play BellyNelly (mostly because he was lost on D). Matt Barnes sucks again and CJ Watson plays like he just saw a ghost. This is not a viable playoff bench.

Good luck Chris Mullin, you’ll need it.

good stuff

I like particularly: 1. I know Ellis can play defense. He just has to commit to it.
11 and 12 made me laugh. LOL.

Warriors

They need better players at the PF and C positions, first and foremost. Then they need to develop a bench. If they did that, they'd be in the playoffs right now.

re:

So your suggestion is to assemble a team. I agree this team has a lot of holes to fill, but more goes into those decisions than just saying what positions we need. Style of play and intangible player talents need to be taken heavily into consideration.

For example, in my opinion we don't necessarily need a new C, but instead a PF who is pretty much a C strength wise. In our offense its also very important to have athletic players at every position so the PF would have to be athletic and play tough defense to compliment Biedrins in the post. Jermaine O'Neal would be a perfect fit, but I doubt we could acquire him. You would be hard pressed to find a C that fits into this style of play better than Biedrins, a supreme around the basket finisher who fits in the offense well and is good on the boards.

Our bench this year was basically Kelenna and Pietrus, so we need to completely revamp that. Offer Pietrus a qualifying offer and use the MLE on someone better than freakin Austin Croshere to come off the bench. Developing younger players is also pivotal in this facet of team building.
