Will the Warriors deal from the #14 hole?

The only thing exciting in American sports this week is the NBA Draft. Euro 08 is going on but that’s during the day. There’s nothing in primetime to satisfy my sports appetite besides baseball so I’m glad that the draft is soon approaching.

I doubt that the Warriors can draft a contributing player for next year’s team at #14. I would really like to see them trade the pick along with someone expendable (Harrington, Biedrins, Pietrus, etc) in an effort to either move up or land some veteran talent.

Chances are this doesn’t happen and the W’s draft some clown that isn’t going to play and that we’ll never hear about again.

Case in point, NBADraft.net has us grabbing Kosta Koufos. Who is that?

re:

Kosta screams bust so loudly that my ears are hurting. He's a sweet shooting big man who will play center but is too thin to play center. How many times does that actually pan out?

Donte Green could come in and contribute right away because the two things he did in college, shoot and be tall, are easily transferred to the NBA. He needs to get better shot selection and shoot less, but he could make an impact right away. IMO the best thing to do would be to trade down and acquire a backup/veteran PG as well as a lower first round pick. The bottom of the round is stacked as we could still nab someone like Douglas-Roberts. __________ LB23

put CDR in a W's jersey, I like it!!

i've been a CDR (clutch FTs or not) for a few years now, ever since he came onto the scene in Memphis. he's got a silky smooth game and I think he could make plays right away in the NBA. many forget that he tore it up even before Derrick Rose got there so I think he'd be a steal at the end of the 1st round; where he's projected to go. -The Answer

re:

Ya, I love CDR. People keep talking about the whole "well he had Derrick Rose so there wasn't much pressure on him" angle, but that's BS. CDR was a vet before Rose got there, and he made plays without Rose.

I think that getting CDR at

I think that getting CDR at 14 would be a reach. A couple of mock drafts that I have looked at have the Warriors getting Marresse Speights from Florida and although I haven't seen him play, he seems like the type of player that we could use. He's a big (6'10" 245) that can hopefully play alongside Andris and give the Warriors a banger that can rebound which is exactly what we need. I know we already have Brandan Wright but Speights is a different kind of power forward. Hopefully the Warriors will give this guy a look and if they do, hopefully Nellie will give him a chance.

Brandon Rush

All of the ideas that have been thrown out are great. I think anyone of the players would help out the warriors. I think the warriors need to take Brandon Rush. Rush is a proven veteran who just finished leading his team to the NCAA championship. He is a terrific defender. I think we all noticed the help of James Posey for the Celtics this postseason. Rush is exactly like Posey, he is a shut-down defender that can still play offense, but isn't necessarily a star-player point leader type. We score enough points. We need someone who can play defense at the 2 & 3, not another scorer. CDR is great and I think he will be a terrific pro, but he does not fill the warriors needs. Another player who can guard the Kobe's, Tmacs, Manu's, Carmelo, Howard, pierce, lebron. Stephen is good at defense, but having another great defender will give the warriors more options. Another big down low to grab some offense and defense musk will also be great addition.

Warriors need to trade out of this spot

after reviewing all of this one thing is clear and that is we're not going to be able to draft someone in this spot thats going to do anything for us next year on a regular basis. let's look as recently as last year and getting Wright in the trade. He's a stud with a lot of upside and he still didn't get that many minutes last year. there is nobody that the Ws have a chance at drafting that is as good as Wright so the obvious thing todo is to trade the pick. trouble is I fear that other teams don't want to draft at 14 either so the Ws could be screwed. -bB

It’s true that no matter

It's true that no matter who we draft, there is a slim chance of him getting significant minutes. Nellie barely gave Al Harrington consistant minutes and he is a veteran player. But I think we still should address our needs which is a big physical player that can run. I don't know if there is a best-player-available scenario at this point inthe draft because the talent level is so equal. According to Chad Ford, Speights is moving down and he has us getting another Kosta and I'm a little weary of that. Yikes.

Could Baron Get Dealt?

And possibly the Warriors move up? If I am the Knicks I'd trade my pick for B-Diddy.

re:

That Knicks trade wouldn't work salary wise and makes no sense otherwise. The Knicks pick is probably the most undesirable top 10 pick as it is, and they don't have any pieces of value.

Biedrins

I know I'm a little late with this comment, but here goes: Is Biedrins expendable? I think not. If the Warriors stick to the minimal defense mentality, who is going to replace his work on the boards and ability to run the floor? O'Bryant? please. Andres works perfectly with the warriors offense b/c he doesn't demand the ball one-on-one. He plays off of BD, Monta, and Jack. I wouldn't trade this guy unless another center and impact player came along. He's just a great role player. Reference: 60+% FGs.
