Would you trade Matt Cain for Alex Rios?

I heard on the radio today that Giants’ GM Brian Sabean turned down a potential deal that would send Matt Cain (SP) to the Blue Jays for Alex Rios (OF). Both are great young talents, with Cain a little more proven at this point. However, I think the Giants are making a big mistake in passing this up. What good is Matt Cain if the team can’t even score a run for him?

Alex Rios first caught my eye during last year’s HR derby. Effortless swing and he’s launching the ball over Triples Alley at Pac Bell park into the seats. I thought to myself, “This guy is a bluechip if I’ve ever seen one!”

Hopefully Billy Beane cashes in on Brian Sabean’s shortcomings (again) and gets Rios in the green and gold!

No

No, Matt Cain is a workhorse pitcher and he's one of the few pitchers in baseball that can throw the high fastball for a strike. Rios is good because he's not worth it for Cain. They should trade Linecum for Cain instead because Linecum is an unproven player and with Linecum's wind up, all that torque that he puts on his body on every pitch, he's going to get injured eventually and be very prone to abdominal injuries throughout his career.

the question is....

if they can't get Lincecum for Rios, how else should the Giants address their need for some (relatively) cheap bats? What other pieces do you guys see them being able to move and for whom? - Freddie Footballer

Can't do it

As bad as the giants need offense, I don't think I would give up either Cain or Lincecum unless it was for someone we couldn't refuse. I don't think Alex Rios is at that level. Those two are the only things the giants have going for them!
