How will Andre Johnson do fantasy-wise this year?

He’s a beast, but he’s been setback with a bum left knee – it was scoped recently and he’s still recovering from that. Definitely a high-risk, high-reward kind of guy. Here’s an article on his fantasy chances: http://subscribers.footballguys.com/2008/08spotlight-JohnAn02.php

Streaky I voted conservatively on this one. AJ is one of the better talents at WR, but it’s questionable whether he will stay healthy a full 16 games this season. As far as fantasy goes, he could be like a Lee Evans — streaky — but because of healthy issues rather than poor offensive production.

Houston definitely has one of the more underrated passing games going into this season. I say he hits close to 1000 and double digit TDs (10), but I wouldn’t be surprised if he challenges for the top receiver spot barring injury.

Due to where he is being taken in drafts, I’m avoiding him. There are other WR with close to if not equal fantasy potential that don’t have such a high risks of setbacks or injury.

home run hitters if you like to gamble and already have a stud RB and QB or two stud RB’s, I could take him as my WR1 if I’m feeling like taking the gamble. Otherwise, he’s a great WR2 with tremendous upside along with obvious downside.

re: When healthy last season, he produced better than any WR at the position. Not just by a small margin, he dominated the WR position until his injury. He’s a top 5 WR easily when healthy.

I don’t get the comparison to Lee Evans. Evans is just extremely streaky and had one good season, Andre Johnson was always solid but his career season was cut short. But like someone on here said, if you can gamble after you already have a good core, go for him. Don’t overbuy on injury prone players!

Clarify Lee Evans comparison To add more to the Lee Evans comparison, I was just looking ahead at this year. Both Lee Evans and Andre Johnson have that risk/reward potential. They could have a set of good/great games followed by a set of a bad games (absentee QB for Evans or an injury for AJ). Of course, the comparison ends in that AJ is more talented and in a better situation. Barring injury, AJ wouldn’t be streaky.

I agree that Andre Johnson is one of the best at his position, but he also might have nagging knee issues pop up again this season.

If you have the star power to support taking him, by all means, jump on that. You might end up having the #1 receiver for 2008.

Lee Evans? Haha Lee Evans is garbage. Andre Johnson has the potential to be a top 5 WR in fantasy when healthy.

The comparison is not even close. Lee Evans never has a big game until week the last 5 or 6 weeks of the regular season anyways….usually in garbage time.

If anything, Johnson is poised to explode in 2008.
