What should the Packers do with Brett Favre?

BIGAUS
Poll submitted by BIGAUS, 1 month ago

Favre wants his unconditional release, which would give him free reign to choose where he wants to sign (Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, etc.). The Packers would rather want him to stay retired or trade him to a team they won’t have to face, but with 3 years and over $36 million left on the contract, he will be difficult to trade. What should the Packers do?

Keep him, thus forcing him to stay retired because the organization is sticking behind Rodgers.

Trade him to a team that they won't face and is willing (and able) to reconstruct his contract.
25% (3 votes)
Give him his release, but put conditions on it so it'll be hard for Favre to sign and will definitely piss off him.
0% (0 votes)
Give Favre his unconditional release.

I wish all of this Favre news would stop after 3 straight offseasons of "I'm retiring, or maybe I'm not".

they should bring back Favre and let him start let’s be serious for a second. Aaron Rodgers isn’t a top level NFL quarterback. Brian Brohm might be and the Pack drafted him this past year. let Brett play another year or two, develop Brohm in the meantime, and let Rodgers go. most likely, they’ll do the exact opposite, Rodgers will get hurt, Brohm will get in there too early and the Packers will be 4-12….-bB

Favre should help Rodgers, not hurt him I would have voted “wish the news would stop” because I do, but I feel more strongly that, if anything, the Packers should keep Favre but stay behind Rodgers.

It’s too soon to make a call as to whether Rodgers will be a NFL-quality QB. He hasn’t gotten a start yet, and he has barely gotten playing time while in Green Bay. Next season is the last year of Rodgers contract, so if they don’t see what he is made of this year and get a chance to offer him an extension, they might be competing for him the following year.

I also think it would throw the team off to finally say goodbye to Favre and move on with Rodgers as a leader only to have Favre return and try to get the team back. It’s a huge confidence killer for Rodgers and could possibly throw off the team chemistry that has been building.

The best scenario to keep the fans happy and do the best for the team might be to have Favre come back as the backup. He can practice with Rodgers and really help Aaron step into the roll of being the QB. If Rodgers isn’t working out, Favre can go back in as the starter, but he could still practice and groom Brohm to help the future of Green Bay

I know there’s a lack of team loyalty around the NFL these days, but to ask for a release and be such a distraction when your team wants to move on based on your previous decision seems a little selfish.

Favre has had years to shine. He’s said his farewells. There’s no reason to drag this out and try and come back under these terms as the starter.

I understand the quandary Favre IS selfish for wanting to come back, yet again. But the team wants to move on, with Rodgers as it’s starter. Obviously from a PR perspective and pride, the team doesn’t want him to come back and especially doesn’t want him to play for another team. But this can get messy for both sides if this continues. Brett Favre will look like a whiny B%&ch, and the Packers will look like haters and obstructionists. The team should get what they can out of the deal money-wise and grant Favre what he wants. Favre’s skills are diminished, although he can still play, so GB doesn’t have to justify the decision to go with Rodgers. Packers fans are smarter than that, and although they harbor sentimental feelings for Favre, the longer this goes the more they’ll realize the wishes of management are agreeable.
