karma I really think it’s karma. Spygate. The arrogance (sorry, Pats fans, but Belichick and Co are not the poster boys for humility). Tempting history and the ’72 Dolphins. Running up the score on teams. Barely beating the Giants and Ravens in the regular season. Brady laughing when Plax predicted 23-17. “We’re only going to score 17 points?” Brady laughed at that assertion. Well, if the Patriots scored 17, it would have been a different story. it would have gone to overtime and then who knows?

but… The Pats (at least of the better part of the season) did that so often it was like taking out the trash. Had they actually converted that, BB would have gone down as a genius…a gutsy play with huge results. That said, sure it was risky…but you have to remember that for Brady, this type of play was nearly routine
But… I think you had to look at the situation. It would have given the Pats a 7 point lead. It wasn’t like Brady was lighting the world on fire in the game and the Giants D was playing well. In my view, they took points off the board. On the other side, 49 yards is no gimme, but this was a low scoring game. It was mainly a defensive struggle to that point.
but, the numbers show for the entire reg season, the pats didn’t go for a 4th down that was more than 10yds to go. they did go for a 4th and 8-10 yds and the result was a sack. in the superbowl, BB was overconfident and didn’t realize (or maybe he did) all those 4th downs his team converted were for much less than 13 yards. the numbers were against him or they weren’t statistically significant either way.

not going for the FG under 50 yards and it’s in a dome? what was Belichick thinking? 4th and 13 isn’t something you can convert easily. -The Answer
